The incident happened at 1.12 pm on Wednesday at Hakeem Hills in Rajendranagar when the victim, Sumaiya Begum, 19, a tailoring student from the same area, was returning home after attending training. As she was walking on the extreme left of the road, a hatchback, coming from the opposite direction, suddenly swerved right, brushed past a car parked on the road and hit her. Due to the impact, Sumaiya was flung into air and landed on the concrete patch in front of a house.
Even as Sumaiya was lying motionless for some time, the accused, who managed to regain control over the vehicle, sped away from the scene. Locals informed Sumaiya’s family about the incident and she was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The victim, who suffered injuries on her head and hip, was said to be out of danger.

Meanwhile, the CCTV footage of the accident came to light on Thursday and went viral on social media platforms as the visuals give an impression that the car driver deliberately turned the vehicle towards Sumaiya with an intention to harm her.
However, after the investigation, police identified the driver is an intermediate pass out. After the incident, youngster’s family left their house. “They switched off their phones and left the house. The car belongs to the offender’s father. We came to know that he recently started learning how to drive, however, since he is a minor, the accused does not have a license,” Attapur out post inspector Kranthi Kumar said. Locals said he rides even the two-wheeler in a rash manner in the colony.
A case was registered under Section 337 of the IPC. The damaged car owner also lodged a complaint with police. Police said the accused has been taken into the custody.
