Will put end to farmer suicides in Telangana, says Rahul Gandhi | Hyderabad News
HANMAKONDA: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday asserted that the party would fulfil the dreams and aspirations of the people of Telangana if voted to power in the next election.
Speaking at the Rythu Sangharshana Sabha at Warangal Arts College grounds, he said that it was very sad that farmers were committing suicide in the state after the state’s formation. He said that AICC president Sonia Gandhi had granted separate stateood to Telangana in order to fulfill the aspirations and dreams of the people of Telangana, but those dreams have not been fulfilled under TRS rule. “The party will work towards making Telangana a suicide-free state if voted to power in the next election,” he said.
Gandhi interacted with families of farmers who had committed suicide. The families, who had come from Khammam, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Mulugu, Sircilla, Bhupalpally and Karimnagar districts, said that they are struggling to survive. Around 25 families interacted with Gandhi and urged him to help them. Gandhi assured the families that the Congress party will come to power in the next election and benefit the farmers by implementing the Warangal Declaration.
Devireddy Sailaja, a resident of Amanda village of Mahabubabad district, said that her husband, a farmer, died two years ago. She said that after their crops suffered damage the government failed to sanction crop loan. She alleged that due to the lack of financial support from the TRS government, her husband committed suicide. “The suicide has not been entered into the government records,” she said.
Siddhi Sulochana, a resident of Tekumatla village in Bhupalpally district, said that her husband, Ravinder Rai, had committed suicide. She said that even though the matter was reported to the state government, it has still not announced compensation.
