Twitter Reportedly Rolling Out New Report Tweet Update Globally

Twitter tested out a new approach to report possibly offensive tweets last year with a small group of users in the United States. The updated Report Tweet flow simplifies the process by providing extra options to explain the troubling nature of the tweet. It was coined the “symptoms-first” method by the social media giant, where the burden of identifying the exact Twitter policy violation is taken off the hands of the users. Reportedly, Twitter is globally rolling out this new Report Tweet feature.

According to a report by TechCrunch, during the initial run, the new Report Tweet flow had increased the number of actionable reports by up to 50 percent. Twitter had outlined this new process through an official blog post last year. The new Report Tweet update allows users to provide more context while flagging a tweet for questionable content. Previously, users had a limited choice in selecting the reasons why a tweet should be taken down. They also had to figure out the Twitter policy a post may be violating.

Now, the new Report Tweet process enables users to provide more information regarding how a tweet may be affecting them. Several screens allow users to frame the troubling nature of the tweet more accurately. Finally, users are shown a summary of their report and the possible rule that the tweet might be breaking. Here, users have the option to select another, if they see it more fitting. Twitter also gives users the option to provide additional context through text.

For the time being, it appears that the new Report Tweet update is only available for the English language on iOS, Android and PC. Twitter roped in different designers, researchers and writers to develop this update. Additionally, it comes at a critical time for Twitter as shareholders are set to vote in August regarding the company’s sale to Elon Musk.
