TRS govt to be blamed for Polavaram project height: Bhatti Vikramarka | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday blamed the TRS government for not taking up seriously with the centre to stop Andhra Pradesh from increasing the height of Polavaram project by three metres.
“If the TRS government was aware of the issue, why didn’t it pursue or lead an all-party delegation to the centre. Ditto is the case with the merger of seven mandals of Telangana in Andhra Pradesh. Though a resolution was passed in the Assembly, KCR-government did not pursue it with the centre to get back the mandals in Telangana,” he said.
Stating that Rs 1,000 crore is not enough to provide a permanent solution to avoid flooding of residential areas in Bhadrachalam and surrounding areas, he demanded more funds for the project and said a bund is mandatory at all costs as art of the project.
Bhatti alleged that it was the redesigning by the TRS government of Kaleshwaram project to Medigadda and constructing it at 100 metres’ height instead of 152 metres at Tummidi Hatti as proposed in the Pranahita- Chevella project by the previous Congress government, that resulted in floods in the state.
He sought to remind the TRS leaders about the repeated warnings issued by the Congress about change in the design and its adverse impact on the state.
Bhatti termed the comment of cloudburst by CM K Chandrashekar Rao as an attempt to divert the attention of the people from the failure of TRS government to come to the rescue of flood affected people in time.
A delegation of the Congress leaders would soon undertake the tour of flood-hit areas of Godavari river.
