HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has decided to fund the medical education of students who have returned home to the state from war-torn Ukraine, over the last few weeks. This was announced by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in the assembly on Tuesday.
“Keeping in mind the future of these over 700 students, who have returned from Ukraine, the Telangana government has decided to bear the expenses of their medical education. Our chief secretary and health minister will write a letter to the Centre soon to say we will support them,” KCR said.
The CM said the government brought back 740 students, who landed in Delhi from Ukraine, to the state on its own expense.
Majority of students had travelled to Ukraine to study medicine.
The students, he said, went to pursue their MBBS there as it costs about Rs 20 to Rs 25 lakh in Ukraine. The cost of medical education in Telangana, on the other hand, is about Rs 1 crore.
