Telangana urges the Centre to release Rs 3,145 crore dues | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Telangana finance minister T Harish Rao has urged Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to release Rs 3,145 crore pending dues to Telangana. This is the second letter in the recent past asking the Centre to clear the dues.
Harish Rao said there were dues pertaining to backward areas grant, local bodies grants, special grants recommended by the finance commissions and IGST arrears.
In the letter the minister he said the grants under AP Reorganization Act for the development of backward areas for the years 2019-2020 and the current year amounting to Rs 900 crore are yet to be released.
“The Centre had sanctioned a yearly grant of Rs 450 crore which fall short of the requirement of Rs 30,751 crore and the amount Rs 24,205 crore recommended by the Niti Ayog in addition to the release of Rs 900 crore. The grant may be extended for five years beyond 2021-2022,” Harish Rao said.
He said the state was supposed to get Rs 817 crore (Rs 315 crore to rural and Rs 502 crore for urban local bodies) under the 14th finance commission. Though the state had fulfilled all the conditions, these grants were denied without any specific reason. Similarly, Rs 723 crore special grant was recommended by 15th finance commission for the year 2020-2021 as the tax devolution was also denied.
“Grants recommended by the finance commission were never denied in the past. We request for reconsideration of the decision and the release of the grant without any further delay,” the finance minister said.
He also asked for payment of Centre’s share of centrally sponsored schemes being implemented in Telangana. In the first year of the formation of the state, the entire Centre’s share was released to AP by oversight, though it was apportioned in the ratio of population between AP and Telangana which comes about Rs 495 crore and is yet to be adjusted, the minister said.
He also sought for IGST settlement dues amounting to Rs 210 crore which is the due share of Telangana in the IGST amount of Rs 13,944 crore transferred by the Centres to the consolidated fund of India during 2018-19.
