Telangana to procure raw rice in Rabi season from 65 lakh metric tonnes of paddy | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government announced on Wednesday that raw rice will be procured from millers from the expected yasagi (Rabi) yield of 65 lakh metric tonnes of paddy cultivated on 36 lakh acres, a day after chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s announcement on paddy procurement.
During a press conference, civil supplies minister Gangula Kamakakar stated that arrangements have been made for the procurement to begin on Thursday in honour of BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary and that the state requires 13 crore gunny bags for the procurement. According to him, the state government must pay Rs 527 crore as an advance payment to the Jute Commission of India for these bags.
The minister said that 51 check posts have been created around the borders of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh so that paddy from other states is not sold in procurement centres in Telangana.
