HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education‘s (TSBIE) proposal to start online evaluation of answer sheets has been overwhelmingly welcomed by stakeholders. While most are in favour of the switch, some expressed apprehensions about who will bear the cost and how fool-proof the process will be.
P Madhusudhan Reddy, president, Telangana State Junior Lecturers Forum, said, “Currently the board charges 500 a student to conduct, evaluate and give results of the exams. The Board incurs a cost of 600 for the same. So it is already meeting the difference from its funds. If the new system comes in, per head the cost will increase to 800. If the Board plans to pass on this additional expense to students, then it will be too much of a burden.”
Concerns were also raised by junior college teachers. “Not all of us have laptops and computers to do evaluation. If the Board does use centralised locations also, will it have the requisite infrastructure,” a teacher asked. It is learnt that initial set up cost itself might run into 50 crore to 60 crore.
However, some felt that owing to pandemic, going digital will help. “A teacher can now evaluate sitting at home and earn. All this while attending to regular classes. Students of new batches will not lose out on academic schedule,” said Gouri Satish, president, Telangana Private Junior College Management Association. tnn
