The fight against drugs in the state is being scaled up with chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directing the police to go all out against the smuggling, sale and consumption of ganja and other drugs.

HYDERABAD: The fight against drugs in the state is being scaled up with chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directing the police to go all out against the smuggling, sale and consumption of ganja and other drugs.
The police in every district is coming up with its own measures, including seeking the assistance of the public, including students and gram panchayats in tackling the menace.
Khammam police commissioner Vishnu S Warrier said a separate intelligence gathering unit would be formed for the purpose of getting information. Meetings will be held with intermediate and degree college students, teachers and lecturers, sarpanches, corporators and auto drivers and lorry drivers unions to solicit their help to take the fight against drugs further.
Vishnu Warrier has also asked the general public to send a Whatsapp message on 7901144600 to provide information relating to smuggling, sale or consumption of drugs. The name of the person providing the information will be kept a secret.
In Mahabubabad district, SP Sharath Chandra Pawar held a coordination meeting with excise officials to also identify those who secretly cultivate ganja and bring them to book. Repeat offenders will be booked under the PD Act. “If necessary, drones will be used to detect the smuggling of drugs,” he said.
Ramagundam police have taken up an awareness programme in villagers against the use of drugs. In Devapur village of Bellampalli in Mancherial meetings were held with the local public educating them about the ill-effects of drug use. They were also informed about the criminal action that would be taken against those supplying or consuming drugs. Mulugu SP Sangram Singh Ganpatrao Patil directed the police to hold meetings with local youth, gram panchayat members and sarpanches to join the fight against drugs.
