Telangana: Harassed by stalker on Instagram, 16-year-old ends life in Adilabad | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: A 16-year-old student ended her life by consuming pesticide in her house due to alleged harassment by an unidentified offender who opened a fake instagram account in her name.
Family members said police did not come to her rescue though the girl contacted them about the harassment. The incident, which happened a few days ago in Adilabad district, came to light on Thursday after the family members approached the media. The girl, who hailed from avillage in Ichoda mandal, died by suicide on Monday anguished by the actions of the accused.
According to Ichoda subinspector Uday Kumar, the offender opened a fake instagram account with her details and started sending messages to various people. “The fake instagram account has her photo as profile picture. The account has objectionable description about the girl and the offender started sending objectionable messages from the fake account,” the SI said.
The family said she contacted police about the harassment but cops failed to initiate any action. “The girl lodged a complaint over the phone. We advised her to deactivate her account and report the fake account.
After the suicide, we have written to instagram seeking details of the fake account operator. Once we get the details, the accused will be arrested,” the SI said.
