Telangana govt to complete Yasangi paddy procurement by June 10 | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has so far procured 31 lakh metric tonnes of paddy produced in the Ysangi season. This also includes 10,000 tonnes of rain soaked paddy.
Civil Supplies minister Gangula Kamlakar on Tuesday said Rs 5,888 crore worth paddy has been procured from 4.72 lakh farmers.
“As per the directions of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao the government will procure every grain of paddy brought to the procurement centres by the farmers. The procurement process has already been completed in 500 centres and the state government is expecting to complete the Yasangi paddy procurement in the entire state by June 10, ” he said.
He brushed aside the allegations made by the opposition parties that the farmers were facing problems due to lack of tarpaulin, shortage of gunny bags and transportation facilities at the procurement centres as baseless. Despite the Central government’s non-co-operation in procurement of parboiled rice, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to bear an additional Rs 3,000 crore financial burden to procure Yasangi paddy.
“Though the centre did not supply gunny bags up to may 2, procurement did not stop in Telangana. Even physical verifications were taken up by the Central government agencies but the state government did not allow the paddy procurement to slow down. As many as 11.64 gunny bags were procured of which 7.52 crores bags were utilised. The remaining 4.12 crore are available and would be utilised to procure another 16 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, before the arrival of more stocks of gunny bags,” minister Kamalakar said.
He stated that that the entire machinery has been directed to expedite the procurement, every day about two lakh metric tonnes of paddy is being purchased from the farmers by 6544 centres.
