HYDERABAD: The army’s services have been requisitioned for rescue and relief operations in flood-hit Bhadradri Kothagudem district in Telangana.
At 4 pm, the Godavari water level at Bhadrachalam was at 70.10 feet which is much higher than the danger level of 53 feet.
Following instructions from chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, chief secretary Somesh Kumar spoke to the army officials and requested them to provide assistance in Bhadradri Kothagudem district which is bearing the brunt of the flood situation.
The army’s 101 personnel of whom 68 are from the infantry, 10 medical professionals and 23 engineers have left for the flood-ravaged district.
The tourism department has dispatched four special boats to the district to assist in rescue and relief operations.
The fire department has also dispatched seven boats along with 210 life jackets.
The government has also deputed a senior officer, the managing director of Singareni Colleries N Sridhar as special officer to monitor the relief operations in the district.
The infrastructure available with the Singareni Colleries will be pressed into service at Bhadrachalam for flood relief operations.
