Telangana Congress demands Rs 15k per acre compensation for crop damages due to incessant rains | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: The Congress has demanded that the TRS government direct the officials to take up assessment of losses caused to the crops due to incessant rains in the state and start paying at least Rs 15,000 per acre compensation.
In a letter to chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday, Telangana Congress president A Revanth Reddy also demanded that the government extend crop insurance and input subsidy to the farmers and also supply seeds and fertilisers so that the farmers can for sowing operations once again this season.
He said crops in over 5 lakh acres in north Telangana districts have submerged due to the incessant rains. The absence of a crop insurance scheme has left the farmers worried as they are bound to suffer huge financial losses due to damage to the crops.
“The TRS government does not offer any scheme to the farmers that provides security to their crops during the sowing or the harvesting operations. The KCR-government has also opted out of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and is also not offering any other crop insurance scheme to the farmers on the lines of other states which have introduced their own insurance schemes,” he stated in the letter.
Revanth also found fault with CM KCR for focusing on targeting the opposition parties at a time when the people and farmers are suffering due to incessant rains and floods in several parts of the state.
