Angry readers have overwhelmingly responded to the TOI question last week if construction work in their neighbourhood was keeping them awake. Not only they are upset with norms being violated, but want authorities to act on their complaints.
I am a resident of Rainbow Vistas Rock Gardens at Sevalalnagar, Hyderabad. The construction work in our locality goes way beyond evening hours. There are also frequent explosions carried out at the construction site. The continuous rock drilling and other construction activity till late at night are causing severe disturbances to all the residents living here and also causing health issues. Further, the intensity of the frequent blasting of rocks is so high that the entire building shakes up and the glass doors of many of the residents have cracked. We have taken up the issue with the builder many times, but there has been no response from them and the activities continue as usual. —A resident of Rainbow Vistas Rock Gardens
We live in Goutami Enclave society, Botanical garden road, Kondapur. In our neighbourhood, a multi-story building is being constructed. The construction activity is going on 24 hours a day. When asked to stop the activity at least after 11 pm, we are told that they got permission to continue to work 24*7. Even our protests have yielded no positive results. We are subjected to unexplainable agony for the last year. —CPR Southend Apartment Welfare Association.
I am a resident of the Meerpet area. In our area, though the construction work is less, the owners of empty plots are digging the borewells during the nighttime. The digging work goes on till at least 5 am or 6 am. This is creating a lot of noise, disturbing our sleep, and even buildings are trembling. I request the state to bring in guidelines and ensure that no borewells are dug during the night. —Ajay K Reddy
We are the residents of Kalpataru Residency. A new venture is being built by the same builder, which is less than 30 meters from our community. The structure proposed is going beyond the depth of our residency. The builder is going with aggressive blasting, which is damaging the structure of our building. Besides this, they are carrying out the disposal of excavated material and drilling activities at night, which are very much disturbing the residents. People are having sleepless nights and the blasts are causing mental agony for all age groups. —Secretary Kalpataru Residency
In most of the neighborhoods in Hyderabad, digging of borewells is being carried out during the night. The same goes for construction work as well. Due to this, residents are not getting any sleep. This is also adversely affecting their health. I urge senior police officials to take strict action against those who continue their constructive activities or dig borewells at night and provide peace to the city. —Syed Shamsuddin Maghrabi
There is construction going on 24*7 near road number 3, Banjara Hills, behind Dr Reddy Lab. For the entire day, they carry out drilling work. And, during the night, blasting is being carried. Lorries carrying debris keep moving in and out throughout the night. My mother is a senior citizen and is unable to rest. The labourers are unwilling to stop the work, owners are absconding, and authorities have no concern for anything. Please help. —Business Aries
Construction of a 5-storied apartment complex next to my residential complex in New Bhoiguda began four months ago. The construction activity is going beyond midnight almost every day. Because of the terrible noise emission and glare of lights, our sleep is disturbed. Further, the high decibel noise because of the breaking of stones during the daytime is forcing us all to keep our doors and windows shut. The residents’ association close to the construction site even approached the builders twice, but after a few days’ pause, the work during the night has again resumed. Authorities must intervene and stop this practice of constructing during the night. —KR Srinivasan
Various construction-related activities like borewell digging, JCB digging, stone drilling, and slab work, among others, at Jana Chaitanya Phase 2, Upperpalli, Rajendra Nagar, which goes on well beyond midnight, is resulting in severe noise pollution in our locality, and sleepless nights for resident. Even after complaining to the police, they turn a blind eye and allow them to continue with work stating big trucks/ borewell trucks are not allowed in the city during morning hours. Request the authorities to kindly increase vigilance and stop all construction-related activities that cause disturbance during the night. —Syed Ahmed.
The building beside our community, which housed Kalajyoti press earlier, is now owned or leased by some warehouse. At this location, the construction continues even during the nighttime with a loud noise. On Sunday, May 29, at 10:38 pm, I called 100 to complain that a builder is carrying our slab work during the night. I don’t know what I should do, as complaints are falling on deaf ears. —Kiran Gour
I stay on the road no 12, Banjara Hills. Construction work began on an open plot behind our home, which is opposite the Meenakshi Towers, about a few months back. Needless to say,we are suffering a lot as they carry construction work throughout the night, throwing general caution and courtesy to the wind. Dialling 100 is also not very useful as they are continuing with work as soon as the police leave. We have a toddler and my parents are in their 70s. They are the ones affected the most. We are helpless and are worried that it will only get worse. —Satya Prasad
I am staying at street no 8, Habsiguda in Amulya Estate. Right in front of my residence, there is a restaurant, which was renovated during the pandemic. For the last one month, we have been getting high decibel noise from their kitchen, which is intolerable. Kindly do needful. —A M Dayal
