VISAKHAPATNAM: The Vizag city police in Andhra Pradesh arrested eleven people, including a rowdy-sheeter and two police constables, for kidnapping a 33-year-old realtor Koppoju Madhusudana Rao for ransom.
The accused have been identified as Kola Venkata Hemanth Kumar, a rowdy sheeter of Bheemili police station limits in Vizag city, Jeereddy Appala Naidu, a police constable from Manyam district, Bimpolu Rambabu, a police constable from Vizianagaram district, and eight others from Vizag, Anakapalle and Vizianagaram districts.
City police chief Ch Srikanth said that the rowdy-sheeter met Madhusudhana Rao — a real estate businessman and stock trader — in 2020.
The rowdy-sheeter told Rao that they found a buyer for a villa owned by the latter and asked him to meet the buyer on February 15.
When Rao reached Balaji Bay Mount road in his car, he met the rowdy-sheeter and two others.
Then the four members boarded another car.
Later, the realtor was kidnapped by the rowdy-sheeter and two others while he was travelling in the car and the gang extorted one gold chain and four gold rings from Rao.
The gang took Rao to a layout on the outskirts of the city and the rowdy-sheeter demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh to release him.
Rao expressed his inability to pay the ransom. He transferred Rs four lakh to the bank accounts of the accused.
The rowdy-sheeter again demanded more money for release.
Rao managed to arrange Rs 8 lakh by pledging the gold ornaments of his wife through his friend on February 16.
The realtor managed to escape from the clutches of the kidnapper by convincing one of the kidnappers by assuring to pay some money on February 16 evening.
Rao’s family members approached the police seeking action against the kidnappers.
The investigation has revealed that the rowdy-sheeter was released from the Central Prison in January on bail and decided to kidnap some rich persons to extort good amounts to fulfil his vices.
He met his jail associates, including the constables Appal Naidu and Rambabu, who were behind the bars for cannabis trade.
In January the rowdy-sheeter met his associates and explained to them to kidnap Rao.
He offered Rs one lakh to each person after successful completion of the plan and paid Rs5,000 to each as advance.
PM Palem police led by Inspector Y Rama Krishna and his team have arrested all the accused in the kidnap case.
The police have frozen Rs 7.75 lakh cash in the account of one of the accused persons and seized eleven mobile phones and two cars from the gang.
