Rapist of two minor girls gets life imprisonment in Andhra Pradesh’s Parvathipuram Manyam district | Amaravati News


PARVATHIPURAM MANYAM: A special Pocso court in Vizianagaram on Tuesday sentenced a 34-year-old-man to life imprisonment for raping two minor tribal girls in a village under Kurupam police station area in Andhra Pradesh’s Parvathipuram Manyam district on January 1, 2022.
The court also ordered a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each survivor.
Velagada Rambabu, a rowdy sheeter, a native of Chinamerangi in the district, posed himself as a police officer, threatened two minor girls (both were Intermediate students of a government residential junior college) and raped the girls near Ravada on January 1, 2022.
The heinous crime took place when the victims along with their friends were returning to the hostel after visiting the Ravada dam on New Year’s day.
The accused threatened the girls with dire consequences citing that he would upload the video of the incident on social media platforms if they revealed it to anyone.
Based on the complaint, the Kurupam police led by sub-inspector Siva Prasad registered a case and inspector TV Tirupathi Rao investigated the case.
The accused was arrested under Section 376 (rape) of IPC and the relevant sections of the POCSO Act. A chargesheet was filed against the accused.
The judge of the court, Shaik Sikinder Bhasha, pronounced the judgement against the convict Rambabu.
The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 24,500 on the convict.
Superintendent of Police, Manyam district, V Vidyasagar Naidu congratulated the police personnel and public prosecutor M Sankara Rao securing the conviction.
