Rajya Sabha elections for six seats in Telangana & Andhra Pradesh on June 10 | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced the schedule for two more Rajya Sabha seats in Telangana and four in Andhra Pradesh. The elections will be held on June 10.
The notification will be issued on May 24 and the last date for filing nominations is May 31. The polling will be held from 9 am to 4 pm and votes will be counted on the same day.
In all, term of 57 Rajya Sabha MPs from 15 states will come to an end on their retirement between June and August this year.
In Andhra Pradesh, Prabhu Suresh Prabhakar, TG Venkatesh, Yalamanchili Satyanarayana Chowdary and V Vijaya Sai Reddy will retired, while the term of Captain V Lakshmikantha Rao and D Srinivas will come to an end next month.
Adequate measures for close monitoring of the election process will be taken and observers appointed to ensure a free and fair election, the ECI said. The ECI directed chief secretaries concerned to depute a senior officer from the state to ensure that the instructions regarding Covid-19 containment measures are complied with while making the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the elections.
