Radiology centers in Hyderabad use AI-based platforms to handle growing caseload | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Radiologists and radiology centers across the city are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI)-powered radiology platforms to handle growing caseload and to ensure greater accuracy.
Currently, close to 52,000 MBBS students graduate every year and yet the country is facing a huge shortage of doctors. This also includes qualified radiologists which have been in high demand, especially during the pandemic over the last two year.
While it is not possible to increase the number of radiologists overnight, AI is making it possible to increase the access of radiologists and also help them speed up reporting with more accuracy and subjectivity.
Hundreds of radiology centers and radiologists in the city are now adapting AI-powered platforms to address the shortage of experts in this field.
“During the pandemic, we got a huge number of cases for chest exams. There was a massive increase in our workload, which was almost four times compared to the regular days. Due to a shortage of radiologists, we had to work overtime to cope with the unexpected workload. The AI-powered radiology platform automated several tasks which gave us extra time to work on many more cases,” said Dr Ramesh Goud Gandeti who heads Alara Medical Diagnostics.
This technology automates several aspects of radiology workflow. “As the platform is fed with more information, it becomes smarter and more accurate, thereby increasing its efficiency,” said Meenakshi Singh, co-founder and chief executive officer of Synapsica, a company that has developed one of such AI-powered platforms, Radiolens.
The technology also helped radiology centers to cater to geographies that do not have access to qualified radiologists for e.g. towns and villages in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. “Most tier 2 and tier 3 places don’t have a lot of qualified radiologists and the platform enables us to handle cases from there. I have seen more than three times the number of cases we are able to handle today,” said Dr Arif, Rays Diagnostics.
