piyush goyal: T Govt Misleading Farmers: Goyal | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Food distribution minister Piyush Goyal asked the TRS government to fulfil its responsibility, alleging that it is misleading farmers in the state about paddy procurement.
In response to TRS leader K Keshav Rao’s question in the RS, the Union minister said, “Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Odisha have large-scale paddy cultivation. Several representatives from various states have met us, and some chief ministers have even threatened us, but our position is unequivocal: we will buy rice from states in accordance with agreements.” Goyal said that the Telangana government in writing said it would not supply parboiled rice to the FCI, but only raw rice.

Goyal stated CM K Chandrasekhar Rao had recently written to the Centre requesting that paddy procurement be done in the same manner as Punjab. “We obtain rice from Telangana in the same way that we do from Punjab. The rice that we get from Punjab is in accordance with the MoU, and that grain can be sold and distributed across the country,” he said, adding the Centre cannot accept coarse rice that is not widely consumed. We will also buy raw rice from Telangana,” he said.
According to MoU between FCI and states, the states can get parboiled rice, while the Centre only accepts raw rice, he said. When asked if the Centre could facilitate the export of parboiled rice, he stated it is not permitted under WTO and individuals should export through private trade.
