NIA books 3 for planning to carry out terror attacks in Hyderabad | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: National Investigation Agency (NIA), Hyderabad unit, on Sunday issued an FIR against three terror suspects recruiting youth to carry out terror strikes and lone wolf attacks on the instructions of Lashkar-E-Taiba and the Pakistan intelligence agency ISI.
The case was registered against three Hyderabadis — Zahed alias Mohd Abdul Zahed aka Md Abdul Wajid, a resident of Moosaram Bagh in Malakpet, Maaz Hasan Farooq alias Maaz, a resident of Royal Colony at Humayunnagar in Mehidipatnam and Samiuddin alias Sami, a resident of Akbarbhag in Saidabad.
NIA took over the investigation from Hyderabad city police. Ch Narendar Rao, an inspector of police of Hyderabad special investigation team of Central crime station, filed the complaint.
NIA alleged, “The Central Government has received information that one person, Zahed, who was accused in several terror-related cases in Hyderabad, had recruited several youths, namely, Maaz, Samiuddin and others, on the directions of neighbouring country-based handlers belonging to LeT and ISI. As per instructions of Pakistan-based handlers, Zahed conspired with his gang members to carry out terror acts, including blast and lone wolf attacks in Hyderabad, to create terror among the minds of the common public.”
“Zahed received hand grenades from his neighbouring country-based handlers and was planning to hurl them at public gatherings/processions to create communal tension. An FIR was already issued on October 1, 2022, with PS central crime station in Hyderabad under sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act,” alleged NIA.
During the investigation, cops seized two hand grenades, two mobile phones and Rs 3.9 lakh cash from the premises of Zahed.
Central government believes that a Scheduled offence under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 has been committed and due to the gravity of the crime, its inter-state & international linkages, it is required to be investigated by the National Investigation Agency. Accordingly, the ministry of home affairs, on January 25 this year issued orders to NIA to take over the case.
