Month after reporting to Andhra Pradesh govt, ex-Telangana chief secretary Somesh Kumar to take VRS | Amaravati News

AMARAVATI: A month after reporting to the Andhra Pradesh government, former Telangana chief secretary Somesh Kumar has finally applied for Voluntary Retirement from Service (VRS). Sources said that Somesh Kumar has sent a representation to the chief secretary Dr KS Jawahar Reddy requesting to allow him to go on VRS.
The proposal is most likely to be cleared after taking the chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s approval.
As per the revised rules, the state government is empowered to clear the VRS applications of any All India Service (AIS) officer without seeking Centre’s permission.
Somesh Kumar reported to AP government following high court verdict on January, 12. He met the chief secretary Dr Jawahar Reddy and reported to duty. He had also met the chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Interestingly, the state government had not given him any assignment since he reported to duties.
Sources said that Somesh Kumar reported to have hinted his idea to go on VRS both to the chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and also to the chief secretary on the day he reported to duties. Sources said that the state government had not allocated any post to Somesh only upon his personal request.
Somesh Kumar is most likely to join as advisor to the Telangana government.
After getting the HC verdict on repatriation of Somesh Kumar to AP cadre from Telangana, the department of personnel and training (DoPT) directed the Telangana government to relieve Somesh Kumar from the duties immediately.
Similarly, Somesh was asked to report in AP within 2 days. Somesh Kumar claimed that he had reported to the duties in AP as he was asked to do so. Somesh Kumar had service till December, 2023. He had already served as chief secretary of Telangana government for nearly three years.
