Mekapati Goutham Reddy: Andhra Pradesh minister Mekapati Gautham Reddy dies of cardiac arrest | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD/AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh industries and IT minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy died of cardiac arrest in Hyderabad on Monday. The 50-year old minister was rushed to a private hospital in Hyderabad following a complaint about chest pain in the early hours. The doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.
Sources said that Goutham had recently recovered from Covid-19 and was busy in investors’ meetings in Dubai. Doctors suspect that the post-covid complications might have led to the sudden heart attack.
Goutham was a fitness freak and strict in following dietary restrictions.

AP CM consoles family of Goutham Reddy
Goutham was in Dubai during the last week where he held several meetings with top global industrialists trying to bring investments in the state. He had returned from the Dubai expo to Hyderabad only on Saturday.
Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan expressed shock over the sudden death of Goutham Reddy.
Reddy is survived by wife and two children. Son of industrialist and former MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, Goutham entered into politics by defeating veteran leader and then TDP candidate Anam Ramanarayana Reddy from Atmakur constituency as YSRCP candidate in 2014 assembly polls. He won his second election in 2019 with a massive majority against TDP nominee and contractor Bollineni Krishnaiah.
Goutham was considered very close to chief minister and YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Despite the presence of several seniors and strong aspirants, Jagan inducted Reddy into his first cabinet soon after winning the elections in 2019. Himself an industrialist, Goutham Reddy is credited to have designed the best industrial policy for AP which helped attract good investments to the state in the last two years. He was instrumental in roping in big-ticket investors to Kadapa MSME park as well as Tirupati electronic city. AP has been on the top of the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) list in the country thanks to the initiatives of Goutham Reddy.
His uncle, Chandrasekhar Reddy, is legislator from Udayagiri in Nellore district. His father, Rajamohan Reddy, served as MP from Narasaraopet, Ongole and also Nellore. Although, considered to be very close to YS Jagan, the party denied Rajamohan Reddy ticket to contest 2019 Lok Sabha elections keeping in view of his age and health. As a mark of respect to the Mekapati family, which had been loyal to YSR and Jagan for the past two decades, Jagan made Goutham Reddy a cabinet minister.
Nellore district in-charge minister and close friend of Goutham Reddy, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy expressed shock over the death. He said that he lost a wonderful friend so early.
Andhra Pradesh government announces two-dat state mourning
According to an official statement from the Department of Information and Public Relations, Govt of Andhra Pradesh, after finding out about the death of Goutham Reddy, chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed chief secretary Sameer Sharma to announce two-day state mourning and conduct the last rites of the deceased as per the state honours and protocols.
HOSPITAL STATEMENT
In a statement, Apollo hospital said that AP minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy was brought to the hospital at Jubilee Hills in an emergency. “He had collapsed suddenly at home. He arrived into our ER at 07.45am and was unresponsive, not breathing and in cardiac arrest on arrival,” said the hospital. It further added that Mekapati received immediate CPR and advanced cardiac life support in our emergency department. The emergency medicine team and specialists including cardiologists and critical care doctors have attended to him. “CPR was done for more than 90 minutes. Despite our best efforts he could not be revived. He was declared to have died at 9.16am today morning. We are supporting his family to the best extent possible in this difficult time,” said the hospital spokesperson.
