MADIKERI: Three tourists, all belonging to a family from Telangana, drowned at Kote Abbi Falls in Kodagu on Sunday evening.
Police said Shyam, 36, Shri Harsha, 18, and Sai Indraneel, 16 are the victims. Shyam was the maternal uncle of the two other victims and he was working in Bengaluru in a private company for 15 years.
Shri Harsha and Sai Indraneel were students in Telangana. About 13 members of the family had arrived in the district on a tour and reached Kote Abbi Falls near Mukkodlu of Madikeri taluk in the evening. The trio were playing in the water. Meanwhile Sai skid and fell in to the water. As he started to drown, the two others jumped into the stream. But all of them lost control and drowned.
The three bodies were retrieved by the fire brigade and Madikeri rural police. A few jeep drivers had earlier cautioned the tourists not to enter the stream. The family had booked a homestay near Kushalnagar.
