k chandrasekhar rao: CM K Chandrasekhar Rao shock & awe: Three businessmen to fill RS slots from Telangana | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: There was no Prakash Raj. There was neither Motkupalli Narasimhulu nor B Vinod Kumar. There was no mention of Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy either. After keeping everybody guessing in the last 2-3 days, TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday picked three new faces, including a pharma company honcho, to fill three vacant slots in Rajya Sabha from Telangana.
Thursday is the last date for filing of nominations for one of the seats, the term of which ends in April 2024.
For that matter, all three picks of KCR are businessmen-industrialists – Hetero Drugs chairman and managing director Bandi Parthasaradhi Reddy, Gayatri Group of Companies chief promoter Vaddiraju Ravi Chandra and Telangana Publications Private Ltd CMD Divakonda Damodar Rao – who will represent the TRS in the upper house.
Election, if necessary, will be held on June 10 as the ruling TRS has enough numbers (voters) to win all the three seats. After finalising the names, KCR handed over the B-forms to the candidates who called on him at Pragathi Bhavan.
Prime mover Prakash Raj left out, jolted
The two other candidates will be filing their papers in the next couple of days.
Parthasaradhi and Damodar Rao are from the OC community and Ravi Chandra is a BC candidate. Parthasaradhi is a Reddy, Damodar Rao is a Velama (KCR’s community) and Ravi Chandra belongs to Munnuru Kapu community.
Actor Prakash Raj, who is believed to be playing a key role in KCR’s plans for making forays into national politics, was surprisingly not named by the TRS chief though he was billed as a certainty. Even senior party leaders from Dalit community like Motkupalli and former MPs Manda Jagannadham and Azmeera Sitaram Naik missed the bus, among whom Motkupalli’s selection was a foregone conclusion, everybody thought, but KCR again sprang a surprise by pitching for Ravi Chandra.
Parthasaradhi is the founder and head of Hetero Drugs, a Hyderabad-based generic pharmaceutical company. Born into a farmer’s family in Khammam district, he did his M.Sc (chemistry in organics) and Ph.D in synthetic organic chemistry from Osmania University. He has worked as a scientist with various organisations. His Hetero Drugs is among top 10 pharma companies in the country.
Ravi Chandra is the founder and chief promoter of Gayatri Group, which is into granite and mining business and industry. He had joined the TRS in April 2019 after unsuccessfully contesting on a Congress ticket from Warangal East assembly constituency in 2018. Apart from being president of Telangana Granite Quarry Owners Association, Ravi Chandra is also the honorary president of Telangana Munnuru Kapu Association JAC and National Union of Backward Castes.
On the other hand, Damodar Rao, a law graduate, has been a TRS man right from its inception and known as a close associate of KCR.
