IT minister KT Rama Rao dials Foxconn boss to set up shop in Telangana | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: With Telangana eyeing a bigger play in the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) space, Telangana industries and IT minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday made a strong pitch to the top boss of Taiwan-based Hon Hai Technology Group, more popularly known as Foxconn, to set up shop in the state.
During a meeting in New Delhi with Young Liu, chairman of the $206 billion turnover Hon Hai Group, KTR discussed Foxconn’s plans to expand its India footprint and urged them to include Telangana in it.
Currently Foxconn has facilities for manufacturing mobile phone brands such as Apple and Xiaomi in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
According to a communique, the minister briefed Young Liu on the initiatives taken up by the Telangana government to creating an enabling environment and infrastructure for fostering electronics manufacturing over the last eight years since its formation.
“Chairman Liu said India is an attractive manufacturing destination, and we would like to see how we can expand our manufacturing footprint. Our India experience has been exciting, and we look forward to explore the opportunities that Telangana as a state offers,” KTR’s office said.
