HYDERABAD: Special Operations Team (SOT) sleuths of LB Nagar along with Meerpet police busted an interstate drug syndicate and seized 1kg opium as well as other incriminating stuff worth Rs 30 lakh from a businessman in Meerpet on Friday.
Parasmal alias Paras Seervi (30), who runs Seervi Travels from LB Nagar and Kacheguda, was arrested from his house in Adithya Nagar in Meerpet. Apart from the 1kg opium, cops seized 5.2 kg poppy straw, 2 kg poppy straw powder, a mobile, Rs 19,000, a weighing machine, a bike and 50 packing covers from his possession.
During interrogation, Parasmal said that he ventured into opium smuggling after meeting Deepak who owns Shourya Pandit Deva Hotel in Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh. Deepak promised to supply the contraband and five days ago Parasmal brought it in a Seervi Travels bus from Neemuch after paying Rs 1.8 lakh, police said.
While Parasmal was on the look-out for customers, SOT sleuths received a tip off and arrested him from his house. “We are trying to arrest supplier Deepak too,” Rachakonda commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said.
