‘I will. Will you?’, actor Ronit Roy shares his experience of writing first column
“Would you like to write a column for us” she inquired over text.
“What? Me? Write? A column? Ummmmm…..I don’t know? I don’t know how to. Allow me to ponder over it and get back to you” I replied.
Just like that out of the blue I’m offered to write a column for a prestigious publication which leaves me with a lot of questions amongst which the greatest is “Do I have it in me?”
That’s the thing with opportunities coming to the fore. You are not always prepared for them. On occasions, like this one, it’s completely out of context to such a degree that it poses an immediate challenge which is not supported by your skill set hence you start doubting yourself.
What do you do? A fork on the life path and the choice is not clear. Maybe there’s good in it, maybe not. Stepping out of the comfort zone as some call it. Going back to stage one. Going back to being a newbie. No training , formal or otherwise and obviously no experience. It does however carry the sense of being a student again.
Learning something new. Widening your intelligence and intellect. But then alongside are the prevalent dangers. Maybe one starts to walk and trips. People laugh. They always do albeit not always openly. What do you do at this point? Do you apologize and back out, go back to where you were and hope that your little goof up will be forgotten soon or do you get up and try again with a resolve to get so good at it that the same people who laughed start applauding one by one. I would choose the later.
Giving up is not in my DNA. This of-course takes courage, grit, determination and sense of purpose.
The courage to tread into uncharted territory. The grit to learn a new craft. The determination to stick to the path and the purpose without which nothing in my life holds any value.
I listen to my little inner voice telling me “Go for it. Maybe through those 300 words you’ll touch a heart.” Every heart touched, every heart moved, every heart inspired holds great value for me and that anyway is the purpose of my life . Isn’t it?
So this is it A new beginning for me. I don’t know where I will end up with this but walk the path I will. I have within me innumerable thoughts, various emotions about various topics , my own points of view, lessons that I’ve learnt , and experiences that I will try and share with you bit by bit, in 300 words, each time.
