Hyderabad’s Rachakonda sees 19% increase in crime | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: The crime rate in Rachakonda police commissionerate has gone up by 19% and the main movers were crime against women, cyber crime, road accidents and others.
Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat while presenting their annual report said that this year the conviction rate is 59%. Among the total convicted persons, 22 accused were given life imprisonment by the courts. In the year 2022, police registered 27,864 First Information Report (FIR) against the 23,045 cases registered last year.
Among these total cases, crime against women has gone upto 3330 cases against 2840 cases reported in 2021. Though the number of rape cases has down marginally, the cases registered for violation of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has gone up by 12.18%.
However, the commissioner said that though the number of cases has gone up it is a positive sign that women are coming forward to lodge a complaint. Rachakonda registered the highest number of cases under crime against women, among the three police commissionerates in Hyderabad. He said that for the upcoming New Year celebrations, their aim is to make it a Drug Free celebration.
While explaining about their plans for 2023, CP said that the government had sanctioned Rs 77 crores for the construction of a permanent building for Rachakonda commissionerate at Medipally in 56 acres land. Apart from that several administrative changes are going to be done by creating two deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) rank posts instead of the existing one DCP (Traffic) post and as their supervisory officer there will be a joint commissioner of police (Traffic).
With fast development of industry and habitation in Maheshwaram, a new Zone for Law and Order is going to be created. Similarly, keeping in view IT corridor in Pocharam, a new police station titled Pocharam IT corridor will be created. He announced new traffic police stations at Jawaharnagar, Maheshwaram and Ibrahimpatnam besides a new women police station at Uppal.
Explaining about the sensational cases dealt by the police this year, he said that in the infamous Nagaraju’s murder case at Saroornagar, where he was allegedly killed by his wife’s family members for having an inter-faith marriage, Rachakonda police said that trial in this case has started. Similarly, in Ibrahimpatnam double murder case, where victims were killed in connection with a property dispute, police said that shortly trial is going to be taken by the court.
