Hyderabad: 2 new bridges over Musi river in nine months, says minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Friday announced that two new bridges will be constructed across Musi river at Moosarambagh and Chaderghat in nine months.
After visiting the Charderghat bridge which faced inundation owing to heavy rains and the Musi receiving massive inflows, the minister said the bridges have already been sanctioned by the government. He said the works will be taken soon. Officials said that 52 crore for the new Moosarambagh bridge and 42 crore for the new Chaderghat bridge had been allocated.
“Construction of retaining walls will be taken up along Musi river so that colonies and houses in the vicinity do not get flooded. Damaged roads in the rains are being identified and necessary repairs carried out from time to time,” Srinivas Yadav said.
Officials fear that another spell of heavy rains, predicted by the India Meteorological Department, could result in the Chaderghat bridge being shut again as more inflows are expected from the catchment areas of Musi river.
Moosarambagh bridge, which was battered by the Musi floods, was finally opened to the public on Friday after two days of restoration works. GHMC officials said the bridge suffered damages to the retaining wall and divider.
“Commuters please make a note that the vehicle movement on another side of the Moosarambagh bridge is allowed i.e., from Dilsukhnagar towards Ali cafe. Now, the Traffic is allowed on both sides of Moosarambagh bridge (sic),” Hyderabad traffic police said on Twitter.
