Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan ends speech with Dasarathi’s poem, it was Tamil verse in 2020 | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Poems and verses often tell a lot – between the lines – to understand and comprehend a particular situation. Their absence in a specific context also tells a story in itself. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan‘s budget speech on Friday was smooth and progressed with a poetic touch of ‘cold vibes’ persisting between Raj Bhavan and Pragati Bhavan.
In 2020 when the governor presented the budget speech for the first time, it ended with a Tamil verse, “Urupasiyum ovappiniyum serupagayum sera thiayalvathu nadu” (hunger-free, disease-free country (state) is the best state). And this time, Tamilisai concluded her speech with lines from writer Dasarathi Krishnamacharyulu’s poem “Karuvantoo… katakamantoo… kanipinchani kaalalepudo, pasi paapala nidura kanulalo musirina bhavithavyam ento” (drought and famine notwithstanding, who can predict what’s in store for sleepy-eyed kid’s future).
Though it cannot be seen as a language war, the governor’s speech indicated that communication between Raj Bhavan and the government was minimal and cold. During her 2020 speech, there were some positive vibes between Pragati Bhavan and Raj Bhavan and governor’s inputs were also taken in the speech.
Sources said Friday’s speech was a win-win for both parties, with no criticism of the Centre and state. There was a discussion between both sides on how to avoid trouble during the speech, is learnt. Interestingly, since this is the first budget presentation and speech delivered after TRS metamorphosed into BRS, there was no criticism of united AP governments and only Telangana’s difficulties were mentioned.
The softening of her speech could be gauged from a paragraph of her speech in 2020. “The drinking water problem was severe and unbearable prior to the formation of the state. Health and education sectors also collapsed. The situation was so bad that the poor had to borrow heavily and sell their belongings to get deliveries done,” she said then.
