Hyderabad: While residents have been seeking a permanent solution to the stench emanating from the Jawaharnagar dump yard, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is yet to get land for three alternative sites in lieu of the Jawaharnagar yard.
While one of the sites requires forest clearance, the other two need revenue department sanction. The three alternative sites are Lakdaram village in Patancheru mandal of Sangareddy district, Pyaranagar village in Gummadidala mandal in Sangareddy and Khanapur village at Talakondapally village in Rangareddy district.
In Lakdaram village the dumping site has been planned on 150 acres, but the land is yet to be handed over to GHMC.
While in Pyaranagar the revenue department has identified 152 acres of suitable land and GHMC has taken advance possession of the entire land. A request letter has been addressed to the principal chief conservator of forest (PCCF) for diversion of 0.6 hectares forest land to build an approach road to the site. After conducting grama sabhas, the PCCF has sent a letter to the special chief secretary of forest department for according approval. The details have also been forwarded to the Chennai regional office of Union environment ministry for technical evaluation and approval.
In Khanapur, the Rangareddy collector has accorded permission to hand over over 42 acres and GHMC has submitted the plan to the government.
