Former Telangana MP Hanumanth Rao to get Ambedkar statue back from police custody | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Congress veteran and former MP V Hanumanth Rao on Friday welcomed the court directions asking the police to handover the statue of BR Ambedkar to him and said a delegation of Congress seniors will soon meet chief secretary Santhi Kumari seeking permission to install the statue at Punjagutta cross roads.
“I am happy that the statue of Ambedkar will be finally released from police custody. My 42-month long struggle for its release is finally successful. I had got the statue sculpted in Amalapuram by spending money from my pocket but the police had taken it away, not allowing me to install it at Punjagutta junction in June 2019,” Hanumanth Rao said.
Since then, the Congress veteran leader made several representations to the chief minister, various government officials, police, staged dharnas, organised all party conferences, demanding the release of Ambedkar statue and to install it at Punjagutta. The police had not allowed its installation stating there was no permission for the state installation at that spot.
