Flipkart opens largest fulfilment centre in Telangana

HYDERABAD: E-commerce giant Flipkart on Tuesday rolled out its sixth and largest fulfilment centre (FC) spread over 4 lakh sq ft in Telangana at Sangareddy district on Hyderabad’s outskirts.
The new FC, which will support the delivery and logistics of a range of product categories, including furniture and large appliances, will help create around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs and take the total number of jobs created by Flipkart in Telangana to over 40,000 so far, said Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy.
Telangana industries minister KT Rama Rao, who inaugurated the FC virtually, urged Flipkart to enter into a tripartite agreement with the Telangana government and various stakeholders to create a unique model that would help protect the interests of gig workers, vendors and partners.
“What Telangana does today, India does tomorrow,” KTR said, pointing out that if successful the model could emerge as a case study not just for India, which accounts for one-fifth of humanity, but also the developing world.
He also stressed on the need to work with bodies such as TASK (Telangana Academy of Skill & Knowledge) as well as Retailers Association of India and other industry bodies to create readily employable workforce for the retail sector.
Flipkart, which delivers around 4.5 million shipments per day or over 120 million deliveries per month, has so far created over 2.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs in the country. The e-tailer also has one of its biggest and green tier-IV data centres in Hyderabad with data centre player CtrlS. It also has a data center in Chennai.
