Drastic drop in Tirumala temple Hundi collections due to decline in pilgrim footfall | Amaravati News
TIRUPATI: Hundi collections at the world’s richest Hindu temple registered a drastic decline to a meager sum of Rs.2 crore due to a decline in the pilgrim footfall at the hill town despite the onset of the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival.
It may be recalled that the Lord Balaji mandir at Tirumala registered its highest ever single day Hundi collections of Rs.7.6 crore on Vaikunta Ekadasi on January 2nd.
But the hill town is wearing a deserted look due to a decline in the pilgrim footfall from January 3rd due to a series of restrictions being imposed on the hill town.
According to TTD sources, about 47781 devotees worshipped at the Tirumala temple by Friday morning and the temple received a hundi collection of Rs.2.10 crore.
While the average pilgrim footfall at the hill temple is above 70000 on weekdays and nearly 90000 on weekends, the average Hundi collections has always been above Rs.4 crore.
But the pilgrim footfall as well as the Hundi collections dropping down by nearly 50% despite the Vaikunta Dwara darshan linked Vaikunta Ekadasi festival in vogue has shocked even the TTD employees.
Restrictions in terms of issuing darshan tickets under various categories and not allowing the devotees without slot tokens for Darshan at Tirumala, setting up slot token counters at Tirupati instead of Tirumala, curtailing the issuance of VIP break darshans linked to Srivani trust donations under current booking and certain other decisions taken by the TTD in the run up to the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival has taken a toll on the pilgrim footfall, leading to a drastic decline in the Srivari Hundi collections as well.
Scores of pilgrims with their families wanting to have darshan are seen returning back dejected without completing their pilgrimage from Tirupati as the TTD has stopped issuing darshan tickets under the current booking under different darshan formats despite a low pilgrim turnout on the hill town over the last four days.
