Covid-19: Tests increase after festival, so do cases in Secunderabad | Hyderabad News

SECUNDERABAD: The number of daily Covid-19 RT-PCR tests, which have come down during the festival and the weekend, have seen a sudden spike after Sankranti in Secunderabad Cantonment.
The reason being sudden increase in positive cases among the residents, who went to their native places for the festival and the five urban health centres in the Cantonment area conducting more tests.
According to the official records of the medical and health department, a total number of 344 RT PCR tests were conducted in the five urban health cenres, while 52 of them tested positive. As many as 110 tests were conducted in Bolarum, while 11 tested positive. Out of 139 tests in Picket, 11 positive cases have been reported.
The cases were gradually increasing simultaneously in other urban health centers including Bowenpally,Trimulgherry and Rasoolpura.
“Despite the officials alerting people regarding the increase in Covid-19 cases in mid-January and reaching its peak in the month of February, residents continue to take part in mass gatherings, ignoring all the Covid norms. The increase in the number of cases revealed that people are making a beeline at urban health centres”, district medical and health officer (DMHO), Secunderabad Cantonment, Dr H Raj Kumari told TOI.
Till the second week of Januray, not more than 10 to 15 RT PCR tests were conducted per day, but now the number has gone up to a minimum of 30 tests per day, said a medical official at an urban health centre. People having mild symptoms are also visiting health centers for tests, the official added.
