Congress will oppose sale of government lands in Telangana: Uttam Kumar Reddy | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy has slammed the TRS government for its plans to sell off prime lands in the state to private parties to raise funds.
Uttam alleged that the state government has directed the district collectors to identify and send details of leased government lands. The TRS government is preparing to sell off the government lands to meet its day-to-day financial needs. The Congress will oppose the sale of lands, he said.
The target is to identify at least 500 acres of government land in each district and put it up for sale. “If Telangana is the richest state in the country, as repeatedly claimed by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, why is the state government preparing to sell the land?” he asked.
The decision to sell government lands to raise money would have a negative impact in the long run. There will be no land left for the government to construct its offices, schools, colleges, hospitals, institutions or other public-interest projects. The governments in future will be forced to acquire land from farmers and private persons, he said.
“The financial mismanagement has turned the state into a Kangaru Telangana. Telangana state had inherited debts of Rs. 67,000 crore at the time of its formation. But the debts have gone up to Rs 5 lakh crore in the last eight years,” Uttam said.
