Congress delegation meets Telangana governor, seeks CBI inquiry into irregularities in rice supply | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Top Congress leaders on Wednesday met Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan and sought a CBI probe into 8 lakh tonnes of rice not being handed over to the FCI by Telangana government and rice millers hand in gloves with officials, purchasing paddy at much lower price than MSP from the farmers due to delay on the part of the state government to start procurement.
They also sought a CBI inquiry into cancellation of G.O. 111 by KCR government as it threatens the very survival of Osmansagar, Himayatsagar, Musi and other reservoirs meant for drinking water supply to the city and other places.
“There are allegations that many TRS leaders and their henchmen have allegedly purchased lakhs of acres of land from innocent farmers and real estate business interests have led to the abolition of the GO. A thorough CBI inquiry is needed,” stated the Congress memorandum submitted to the governor.
The Congress delegation referred to a statement by Union minister G Kishan Reddy that Telangana government did not hand over 8 lakh tonnes of rice to FCI. The Union minister had raised doubts about where that rice was lying and wondered if it reached the black market, they alleged.
The allegations have come from a responsible Union minister and serious charges of corruption worth thousands of crores of rupees. “We request an inquiry by the CBI,” the memorandum demanded.
The Congress also demanded that the government compensate the farmers who did not take up cultivation at all as the government issued diktat not to cultivate paddy and their land was not suited for other crops, and also provide MSP for alternate crops cultivated by farmers in lieu of paddy.
Stating that the KCR-led state cabinet meeting held on Tuesday took some irrational decisions and that an erratic governance is leading to chaos in the administration, they sought her intervention in protecting the Constitution and lives of Telangana people.
“CM KCR intentionally created uncertainty, confusion and delayed paddy procurement during Yasangi. As a result, about 40% of the farmers resorted to distress sale. These farmers lost about Rs 4,000 crore,” Revanth said.
Congress also urged the Governor to look into how the government has hushed up the drugs case to save big fish involved in it.
Congress also expressed deep concern over Rs. 60,000 crore losses to discoms due to the lopsided policies of the TRS government.
Komatireddy said tenant farmers will be given Rythu bandhu sop if Congress is voted to power in 2023 in the state.
