Centre played key role in Telangana national highway development: Nitin Gadkari | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Friday dedicated two road infrastructure projects and laid the foundation for 17 national highway and CRIF projects ofa total length of 460 km with an investment of Rs 8,007 crore in Telangana. Gadkari also responded positively to the state’s request to approve the southern part of the regional ring road (RRR).
The Union minister claimed that by 2024 the Centre would have spent about Rs 3 lakh crore on national highways (NHs) and road infrastructure projects in Telangana in the 10-year period since 2014.
Highlighting the Narendra Modi-led central government’s role in Telangana’s development, Gadkari said: “When I became Union minister in 2014, the accumulated length of NHs in Telangana was just 2,511 km. Today, it is 4,996 km. This is just the trailer, the movie is yet to be released. The NH length will further increase in Telangana. ”
BJP workers heckle Telangana minister
BJP workers raised “Jai Shri Ram” slogans and heckled minister V Prashant Reddy during his speech in the presence of Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, G Kishan Reddy and V K Singh. The situation was brought under control after the intervention of Kishan Reddy.
RRR work may begin in 3 months
Earlier, Telangana roads and buildings minister Vemula Prashant Reddy said the state would bear 50% of the land acquisition cost for the southern part of RRR as was being done for the northern part.
Indicating that the RRR work may begin in three months, Gadkari said: “I request the state to build a planned city, industrial cluster and logistics park around the RRR.”
He added: “I will come for the bhoomi pooja of the 182 km northern part of RRR in less than three months.”
Of the 26 green express highway projects taken up by Centre in the country, five pass through Telangana and would be developed at a cost of Rs 70,000 crore, Gadkari said.
“Already, out of 33 districts in Telangana, 32 have been linked with the NH network and the remaining one district would be connected soon,” he said.
He also suggested that engineers re-examine design of BHEL flyover to meet traffic demand for next 50 years.
Praising Telangana and citing Hyderabad as a major IT hub, he said: “To achieve Atmanirbhar Bharat and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of making India a $5 trillion economy, Telangana also has to be made prosperous and rich. I am promising that road infrastructure in the state will be on a par with international standards like the US before the end of 2024,” the Union minister said .
