On May 28, the survivor and the six accused boys left in the SUV from a bakery in Banjara Hills and drove around. They returned to the bakery where one of the boys got down. Subsequently, the five accused and the survivor reached Jubilee Hills Road No. 44, where she was allegedly gangraped.
“The car in which the offence took place is an official vehicle, which was allotted to the father of an accused,” Anand said. “Two cars were used in the crime and both were driven by minors. ” He added that they are considering booking the parents of the minors but will first verify the facts.
The police commissioner also said they will be increasing surveillance on pubs.
Asked why officials took so long to book the MLA’s son, Anand said they wanted to corroborate all evidence with the statement of the survivor besides taking into consideration various aspects. “We got the complaint after three days of the offence when the father found out about the girl’s injuries. From there it took 3-4 hours of counselling after which the girl disclosed what had happened to her on the ill-fated day,” he said.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
