BJP man’s suicide: Telangana HC notice to minister, Khammam cops | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court on Friday issued notices to state transport minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, state and Union home secretaries, Khammam police commissioner, CBI and a few others asking them to explain their stand on a PIL claiming that the suicide of a BJP activist in Khammam was due to the false cases foisted on him at the behest of minister Ajay Kumar.
A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili, while hearing the PIL by Dr K Krishnaiah, an advocate and former ABVP activist from Mahabubnagar, gave the authorities one week to file replies.
When the petitioner’s counsel alleged that some local leaders have offered Rs 50 lakh and a car to the mother of the deceased to buy her silence, the bench asked him to file an additional affidavit and posted the case to April 29.
The petitioner has claimed that minister Ajay Kumar implicated BJP activist S Sai Ganesh in nearly 10 criminal cases and had a rowdy-sheet opened against him in a bid to curb his growing popularity in Khammam district.

He named the minister, circle inspector Sarvaiah of Khammam Urban III Town police station and local leader Prasanna Krishna as the three key persons who drove Ganesh to suicide. The petitioner also urged the HC to order a CBI probe while accusing local police of not doing their job.
“It was at the behest of the minister that police booked false cases against Ganesh. Despite widespread allegations and media coverage pointing fingers at the minister, the FIR did not name him. Ganesh ended his life on April 16 and we are still waiting for the police to look at the role of the minister. On the other hand, the FIR names the deceased as the accused. The police may not be free from influence of ruling party leaders and, hence, we want a CBI probe,” said petitioner’s counsel U Abhinav Krishna.
“Though Ganesh narrated his woes publicly before his death and named the minister and others, the police have not questioned them till now,” he added.
As the bench was ordering notices, an advocate appeared claiming to represent the minister and took the notice on his behalf. Assistant solicitor general Namavarapu Rajeswara Rao took the notice on behalf of the Union home ministry.
Advocate general BS Prasad, who took the notice on behalf of the state, said the Khammam III town police has been probing into all aspects of the case after registering the FIR.
The petitioner said Sai Ganesh was very active on social media and his aggressive posts critical of the minister garnered a lot of public attention which the latter could not stop through legal means. He claimed that as the BJP activist was exposing illegal activities of the minister, false cases were registered to destroy him financially and mentally. Ganesh’s suicide was the result of a nexus between politicians, police and criminals, the petitioner said, citing the Supreme Court’s observations in various cases.
