Amid War, Hyd Man Ties The Knot With Ukrainian | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: As missiles continued to rain on Ukrainian soil, Hyderabad stood witness to a peaceful wedding reception — of an Indian groom and an Ukrainian bride — thousands of kms away from the war-struck country. The two newly-wed couple celebrated the day at a venue in the city on February 27, with close friends and family, glad to have made it here safe, before the tension peaked.
According to those present at the event, the couple — Prateek and Lyubov — had tied the knot in Ukraine and travelled to India for the reception (hosted by groom’s family). They landed in the city only a day before the war started.
“Because of the situation prevailing in Ukraine, the reception was a very private affair with only select relatives and close connections. But it was a grand success,” said Ch Rangarajan, hereditary archaka at the Chilkur Balaji temple, who was on the guest list.
“They blessed the couple with ‘askhintalu,’ taken from the Chilkur temple and presented two garlands,” Rangarajan said adding that the event was “unique”.
Though TOI tried to contact the couple and their families, they refrained from speaking. Those close to them said that the parents aren’t willing to disrupt the couple’s privacy at such a time. But it was, however, learnt that the two might have to leave for Ukraine soon as the validity of their visas last for only a few more weeks.
Meanwhile, a special puja is being performed daily at the Chilkur Balaji temple to pray for the end of the war soon. “The prayer is for the Russian aggression over Ukraine to stop and for peace to be restored. This war has brought bloodshed and turmoil worldwide. It has further devastated a world already impacted by the pandemic,” said Rangarajan.
