HYDERABAD: US-based biopharma giant Amgen is setting up its new technology and innovation centre in Hyderabad. The new facility, Amgen India, is slated to become operational in the fourth quarter of this year and will have capacity to accommodate up to 3,000 employees.
Amgen said the new tech and innovation centre is aimed at accelerating digital capabilities across the global organisation to advance Amgen’s pipeline of medicines.”Amgen will initially build and accelerate new technology solutions and digital capabilities at scale that will enhance efficiencies across the enterprise,” the firm said.
The site will offer roles that strengthen key areas of Amgen’s business, including AI, data science, life science, and other additional global capabilities over time, it added. The company has appointed Som Chattopadhyay as national executive for India as part of leading Amgen’s expanded presence in India.
The company said it had zeroed in on Hyderabad, where it has acquired six floors in the RMZ Spire project in Hyderabad’s IT district, because of its world-class talent.
Chief minister A Revanth Reddy said Amgen’s new site in Hyderabad underscores the city’s position as a global hub for innovation and technology. “It is a matter of pride for us to welcome one of the world’s largest biotech firms to city. This reinforces our city’s position as a global leader,” the CM announced on social media platform X.
Amgen’s executive vice president David M Reese said: “Establishing this new site in India marks a step forward in our journey to deliver on our mission to serve patients. At a time when a quickly aging global population needs more innovation, the convergence of biotechnology and technology is enabling Amgen to work with greater speed, confidence, and efficiency.”
