HYDERABAD: An 11-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of a four-storied building at LB Nagar on Tuesday evening. After analysing CCTV footage and examining witnesses, police have said that no other person’s involvement was found in the girl’s death, but the exact reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained.
The girl, Varshita, 11, was the second of the three daughters of Satyanarayana Reddy and Prabhavati, residents of Madhura Nagar, LB Nagar. Reddy is a farmer and Prabhavati a housewife. Varshita was a class VI student of a local private school.
According to police, Varshita went to school on Tuesday and returned home in the afternoon. At 5.30 pm, she left home informing her mother that she was going to a shop near their house.
Instead of going to the shop, Varshita got into an auto. The auto driver asked her where she wants to go and the girl said she wants to go to LB Nagar X roads to meet her father. To verify if the girl was telling truth, the auto driver asked her for her father’s phone number and the girl told him a random number.
The auto driver dialled the number from his cell phone but as no one answered the call, he took the girl to LB Nagar X roads and stopped near the four-storied building as per the instructions of the girl, police said.
“As the girl got down from the auto and her father was not around, the driver asked the watchman of the building if her father works in the building. A woman, who is the watchman’s family member, thought the girl was the daughter of a man who used to work in an office on the fourth floor and let her proceed inside. Shortly afterwards, the girl fell from the terrace of the building and died on the spot with severe injuries,” LB Nagar inspector B Anji Reddy said.
There was no suicide note. “The gir’s family members also said that they have no suspicion about their daughter’s death. The reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained,” assistant commissioner of police (ACP), LB Nagar, Sridhar Reddy said.
