₹3k To ₹5k: Steep Hike In Pushpak Bus Pass Fare | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Regular commuters and airport employees taking the Pushpak bus to reach Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) will have to shell out more. The monthly bus pass fare has been jacked up to Rs 5,000 from Rs 3,000.
Not just this, an additional 5% GST will have to be borne by the regulars, in what could be the most expensive bus pass offered by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation.
TSRTC increased the bus pass fares on January 17, which came into effect the very next day (Jan 18). This move has left several airport staffers and regular passengers fuming as it effectively doubles their monthly transport expenses. “Even though the service some times is poor and not punctual, it’s the only option for us to reach the airport directly without encountering city traffic. With the fare steeply increased, it looks feasible to use a private vehicle,” said V Reshma, who works in the airport.
Currently, the airport liners run on four routes via Secunderabad, JNTU, LB Nagar and Mehdipatnam catering to different parts of the city. As per official statistics, roughly 28,000 people use Pushpak buses every month, averaging at 850-1,000 passengers everyday in the 40 buses designated for the airport. Of these, 670-700 passengers use the bus pass facility, an official said. With MMTS train services available only till Umdanagar, many passengers are forced to take Pushpak buses as it saves them the time to reach RGIA.
The Pushpak airport liner bus pass, though one of the most expensive bus passes, allows free commute through the city on any bus making many living on the outskirts and commuting to the city also opt for it.Meanwhile, TSRTC officials defended the move stating that cost to operate these buses has increased owing to increased input costs.
“To keep in line with the rising costs of operations and maintenance, we had to increase the bus pass fares. Even now, the cost of the bus pass is half to what a passenger will be spending buying tickets daily,” said a senior official.
