Where’s Flood Relief Funds? Telangana Poser To Centre 6 Months After Loss Pegged At ₹1.4k Cr | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Six months after the central team visited the flood-affected areas in Telangana, not a single rupee has been released towards flood relief by the centre, said senior government officials.
The state government had submitted the details of losses caused due to continuous heavy rains and floods and put the total loss at ₹1,400 crore.
Sources said the wait for central flood assistance could get much longer as the sub-committee constituted by the national executive committee of the disaster management division in in the ministry of home affairs, government of India, is yet to go through the reports of the state government and central team, which came to Telangana in July.
“It is only after the sub-committee goes through the central team’s report that the high-level committee in the MHA will see and ratify it, following which a decision on the quantum of financial assistance towards flood relief will be taken,” said a senior official.
On their part, BRS leaders have been accusing the BJP government at the Centre of intentionally discriminating against Telangana. With the launch of BRS national party office in Delhi, the central government has been raising one or the other query over release of central funds or grants to Telangana, they alleged.
For example, the state government had submitted details of ₹1,400 crore loss, including ₹498 crore loss incurred by roads and buildings, ₹449 crore by the panchayat raj and ₹379 crore by the municipal administration departments.
“But the central government raised a query stating a specific report was not submitted on losses suffered by the people due to flooding of houses, damage to the houses and vehicles, etc.
The Centre may always ask such questions but could have released some initial financial assistance and later the state government would have submitted every report sought by the Centre,” a senior BRS leader said.
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had sought an immediate relief of ₹1,000 crore from the Centre.
Union tourism minister G Kishan Reddy claimed the Centre has released nearly ₹ 3,000 crore to Telangana towards disaster relief in the last five years.
