Two students from Telangana killed in US car crash | Hyderabad News
Pavan was at the wheel when the accident took place at 4.30 am. Illinois state police said the other car driven by 32-year-old Marie Meunier of Cape Girardeau crossed the centre line and crashed into Pavan’s vehicle. Pavan and Vamshi died on the spot along with Marie. Three students – Kalyan Dorna, Karthik Kakumanu and Yashwanth Uppalapati who were travelling with Pavan – suffered injuries and have been hospitalised.
Shashi Kiran Pechetty said his brother Vamshi was sitting behind the driver’s seat. “A car in the opposite direction crashed into Pavan’s car at a very high speed. Vamshi and Pavan were pursuing their master’s in computer science at Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale,” he said.
The university held a vigil in their memory. “We are heartbroken to learn of a car accident that has taken the lives of two students and injured three others. We send our condolences to the families of Vamshi and Pavan. We hope Kalyan, a graduate student in civil engineering, and Karthik and Yashwanth, both graduate students in computer science, will heal,” Austin Lane, SIU chancellor, said.
The chancellor also said: “We are working to support the families during this incredibly difficult time. Our counselling and psychological services team is available to help others who are impacted by this tragedy. Our thoughts and hearts are with these students and their loved ones.”
To help the families of the deceased in sending the mortal remains back home, a GoFundMe page was created by Rahu Reddy Pesaru and $14,500 contributions were received out of $50,000.
