The accused were identified as Vantala Poorna, Korra Prem Kumar and Bujji,
ASP KPS Kishore told the media that a former sarpanch of Manyamvari Palem, K Rajeswara Rao, was lured by a rice-pulling gang.
The gang, led by mastermind Vanthala Poorna, an ex-sarpanch of Malasingaram and Korra Prem Kumar of Chintapalli had shown Rajeswara Rao a rice-pulling coin with images of Seetha, Ram, and Hanuman on it and convinced him that it contained powerful metals like iridium that could fetch more than Rs 500 crore if sold to auction companies abroad.
Rajeswara Rao agreed to join the gang as a partner to sell it to the companies interested in the metal.
The gang demanded Rs 20 lakh from Rajeswara Rao to show the coin and prove that he was a worthy partner.
Rajeswara Rao and his friends were only able to gather Rs 8 lakh, but the gang agreed to the amount and called Rajeswara Rao to a house in Turtumpadu in Chintapalli Mandal.
Rajeswara Rao was looted by the gang while he was going with the gang members toward Lammasingi where they planned to test the power of the magic coin.
As part of the plan to steal the money, Vantala Poorna’s associates Bujji, Pramod, and others stopped Rajeswara Rao’s car, impersonating police officers conducting a vehicle check. Poorna, Kumar, and others came out of their cars, threatened Rajeswara Rao with a knife, and looted Rs 8 lakh cash.
Rajeswara Rao and his friends searched for the gang in Chintapalli and Turtumpadu for two days before lodging a complaint with the police.
