Telugus In S Africa Help With Blankets | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: In an initiative, the Telugu community in Johannesburg, South Africa, distributed blankets to the needy, an act which earned it much appreciation by the Midrand police.
“When during these times, it gets cold, we show our concern for those who need to be helped. We have given 100 blankets for distribution so far this year,” a software engineer, Gurrala Nagaraju, who hails from Telangana, said.
The Telugu community has engaged with the local community in different ways and distributing blankets has been one of them. For the last four years, the TRS NRI South has been distributing blankets to those in need.
The local police also extend help to victims of gender-based violence and they are given these blankets too. The blankets have been a way for Telugus to help in the cold. “The gesture from the people of Telangana in providing help to the needy strengthens our bond with the Indian community even more. We wish people of other countries also take such initiative to help the local people not just in Johannesburg but in various parts of the country,” a local Midrand police official said.
