Telangana: Tribal woman killed over inter-faith relationship | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Even before the two murders in Hyderabad borne out of inter-faith marriages could fade from public memory, another killing relating to an inter-religion relationship took place in Adilabad district on Friday.
This time, a 20-year-old tribal woman was stabbed to death in her village home in Narnoor mandal.

Police suspect that she was killed by her father as the family did not approve of her relationship with a 22-year-old man from Muslim community. Utnoor deputy SP Harshavardhan Srivastava said that a murder case has been registered.
At around 9.30 am, village sarpanch informed Narnoor police about the woman’s death. A police team rushed to the village and found the woman lying dead on the floor with her throat slit open.
Her father said that she picked up an argument with the family in the early hours of the day when they reprimanded her for not going out for work and stabbed herself with a knife, Narnoor sub-inspector Ravi Kiran said.
However, police did not believe the claims of the father. “We have seized the knife. By looking at the nature of the injury, it is not self-inflicted. The tribal woman’s father and mother, who were at home at the time of the incident, are being questioned. Her father is the prime suspect,” the SI said.
About two months ago, a rape case was registered against the Muslim man following a complaint from the woman’s family. The woman had eloped with the man, who works as a labourer, to another state against her parents’ wishes and returned to the village some time back.
“After returning to the village, her family lodged the complaint alleging that the man had sexually exploited her. A rape case under IPC section and SC/ST Act was registered against him. We had arrested him then,” Ravi Kiran said.
The tribal woman was a school dropout and her father is a farmer.
