Telangana spent Rs 16,000 crore on urban infrastructure in eight and half years: KT Rama Rao | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Stating that the Telangana government was according top priority for creation of infrastructure in municipalities in the past few years, municipal minister KT Rama Rao said the state government had spent Rs 16,000 crore for developmental works in all the 141 municipalities in the last eight years. It was also giving priority to bringing reforms in the administration.
“The Centre cannot afford to ignore the development ushered in by the state government in towns and villages, regardless of political affiliations,” the minister said addressing the municipal officers as part of a work shop on Pattana Pragati on Thursday.
He asked the officials not to hesitate in pitching new ideas and said the government was committed to make the department the best in the country. The minister said that a comprehensive report on it would be distributed to all MLAs, MLCs, MPs, during the next assembly session and municipal officers to let them know how the state government has been trying to improve towns.
He spoke about the path-breaking Telangana State Building Permission Approval & Self Certification System (TS-bPASS) implemented by the state government and said that no other state in the country introduced legislation which helps citizens get the approvals in such a transparent manner. Appreciating officials and staff for winning 26 awards in Swachh Survekshan-2022, he said that the Centre’s awards are a testament to the focus, commitment, and passion invested by people in the state.
In another meeting, KTR said tha safety of pedestrians is of paramount importance to the government. Addressing a coordination meeting of senior officials from municipal administration and police departments, the minister urged both municipal administration and police departments to work in close coordination to ensure pedestrian safety in Hyderabad city.
KTR said that while the state government had built several infra projects to ease traffic congestion in Hyderabad City, there is still lot of scope to improve infra for pedestrians. The minister said that only new and innovative solutions would address constant challenges faced in improving infra in a fast growing city like Hyderabad. He said that provision of new road infrastructure, road expansion and improving pedestrian infra have always been a priority for the Telangana government.
The GHMC and police officials informed the minister about measures that can be taken up to provide more infra for pedestrians to walk and cross the roads. He said the number of vehicles plying on the city roads increased by multi-fold in the past few years, and that issues rising out of it can be solved only by simultaneously strengthening public transport. He also discussed the possibility of laying new cycling tracks and footpaths for walkers.
GHMC officials informed him that improvement of 60 major junctions in the city was taken up and infrastructure for pedestrians was planned at 12 junctions. Some of the places where the junction development works are being developed are Kukatpally, Somajiguda, Panjagutta, Kothapet, Habsiguda, and Khairatabad.
